Barbara Adams, 85, has been undergoing treatment at Grande Hospital for the last three weeks, her aide said.

She was first admitted to Lazimpat-based CIWEC clinic on March 29 and moved to Grande a day later. 

“She is currently on life support and her condition has deteriorated due to pneumonia,” said the aide.

Adams, widely known as Barbara, has spent most of her last three decades in a Naxal residence. She has been a permanent fixture of Kathmandu social scene since she arrived here in the 1950s as a young American journalist.
