A youth died and two others were injured after being struck by lightning in Shailyashikhar Municipality-3 of Darchula district on Monday evening.

According to Gyanendra Bahadur Singh, information officer of Darchula District Police Office, the trio, all from the same family, were hit by the lightning at around 6:30pm while working in the field.

Singh said 15-year-old Naresh Khatri, who was injured in the incident, was pronounced brought dead by doctors at Gokuleshwar Hospital.

His mother, Mina Khatri, 39, and uncle Kumar Khatri, 30, have sustained minor injuries and are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
