A man died after being attacked by a rhino in Meghauli, Chitwan, on Sunday evening.

According to the District Police Office, Chitwan, the deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Jange Kumal of ward 28 of Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

Police said the incident occurred around 8pm near the Rapti River at the edge of the village, where Kumal had gone fishing. He was critically injured in the attack and rushed to Bharatpur Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead at 9pm, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabindra Khanal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Chitwan.

Wild animals like rhinos, tigers and elephants from the adjacent Chitwan National Park killed between five and 25 people every year in Chitwan and neighbouring districts in the past, according to police.
