A 15-year-old girl died and two others were seriously injured when a man attacked them with a khukuri in Janakpur on Monday night.

According to the District Police Office, Dhanusha, Ram Babu Sah, 35, of ward 9 in Kshireshwornath Municipality in Dhanusha, attacked Anjali Kumari Yadav, slitting her throat, at around 11:30pm in a rented single-storey house in ward 4 of Janakpur Sub-metropolitan City.

Police said Sah also struck Anjali’s mother, Asha Yadav, 35, of ward 4 in Kshireshwornath, on the head and other parts of her body. Radha Yadav, 14, of ward 1 in Mithila Municipality, was also attacked, sustaining deep cuts to her right knee and hand.

The injured are undergoing treatment at Janakpur Provincial Hospital.

Sah, who had previously served a five-year prison term for murdering his wife, fled the scene after the attack. Police said an investigation is underway.
