Assistant district coordinator of the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union, the student wing of CPN-UML, Bibek Baniya sustained serious injuries in a khukuri attack in Phungling, the district headquarters of Taplejung, on Monday. 

According to Kamal Lungeli, information officer at the District Police Office, Premraj Limbu of ward 4 of Phunglng Municipality assaulted Baniya near his residence.

Baniya, who is also personal secretary to UML’s Koshi provincial assembly member Til Kumar Menyangbo, is receiving treatment at the district hospital. 

Police said they are searching for the suspect.
