The 30-megawatt Khani Khola Hydropower Project in Dolakha district has begun trial generation and is feeding electricity into Nepal’s national grid.
The project, located in Wards 6 and 7 of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality, began test generation on October 4, according to plant manager Ishwar Kandel.
Sasha Engineering, the project’s developer, said the plant was generating electricity successfully. Commercial production is scheduled to begin on October 19, after 15 days of testing, Kandel said.
Tests of the equipment installed for power generation have largely been successful, he added.
Construction was delayed after floods on July 9, 2024, damaged the project’s dam site, Kandel said.
Once commercial operations begin, the run-of-river project will add 30 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
