Lawmakers have raised alarm over growing insecurity, horrific crimes against girls and what they described as government indifference to violence against children.

Speaking during the zero hour of Tuesday’s National Assembly meeting, lawmakers criticised the government over the rape and brutal killing of a three-year-old girl in Bara and demanded stern action against those responsible.

National Assembly member Gita Devkota called for compulsory age-appropriate sexual education, including both ethical and practical instruction, from the school level. She also urged the government to establish fast-track proceedings for cases of child sexual violence and impose the maximum punishment on perpetrators.

Member Somanath Portel strongly criticised the Home Administration over the filming of a video after allegedly pressuring the victim’s family. He urged the government not to exploit people’s suffering for public display.
