Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhu Nepal, who has been serving in Nawalparasi East, has been arrested on a charge of polygamy. Rupandehi police are carrying out further investigation.
His first wife, Tara Nepal Khanal, had filed a complaint accusing him of entering a second marriage. Following the complaint, Rupandehi District Court on Monday allowed police to arrest Nepal.
Superintendent of Police Pradip Bahadur Chhetri of the District Police Office, Rupandehi, said Nepal came to the office on his own after learning about the complaint and has been taken into custody for investigation. “His custody has been extended by three days on Tuesday,” he said. “The investigation is underway.”
According to police sources, DSP Nepal married a second time to a female police staffer. The policewoman is currently on the run.
Nepal had previously been suspended in 2017 after being implicated in a financial dispute linked to cannabis trading while serving as a police inspector at the Ramnagar Area Police Office in Butwal.
The suspension led to removal of his name from the promotion shortlist for Deputy Superintendent of Police at the time.
