Harikala Bhandari, the mother of Nepali Congress lawmaker Chandra Bhandari, who was injured in an LP gas cylinder explosion on Wednesday, passed away while undergoing treatment on Thursday. She was 86.
Lawmaker Bhandari and his mother both sustained burn injuries during the incident that occurred at their home in Buddhanagar in Kathmandu. They were undergoing treatment at Kirtipur Hospital.
Dr Nijina Tamrakar, director of the hospital, informed that Harikala died while undergoing treatment at 10:57 am on Thursday. Harikala had sustained burn injuries on 70 percent of her body.
A statement issued by the hospital earlier stated that hot air and smoke had caused inflammation in her windpipe.
The hospital had also recommended that Bhandari and his mother be transferred to a medical institution with better medical facilities abroad stating that their health condition had deteriorated and specialised treatment was not plausible in Nepal.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway to send Bhandari to Mumbai for further treatment following the doctors’ advice.
