Former judge Omkar Upadhyaya has been convicted of obtaining a fake academic certificate.
A joint bench of Special Court judges Yamuna Bhattarai, Balabhadra Bastola and Khushi Prasad Tharu on Thursday convicted the former judge of Tanahun District Court and slapped a fine of Rs3,000, according to Dipendra Nath Yogi, spokesperson of Special Court.
The Judicial Council had filed a corruption case against Upadhyaya on June 2, 2019, alleging that the bachelor’s degree certificate he had obtained from India, was fake. Upadhyaya had resigned after the case was filed.
The Judicial Council had sought a jail term of up to one year and a fine of up to Rs20,000 against Upadhyaya.
