CPN-UML candidate Bhagwati Chaudhary has been elected to the House of Representatives from Sunsari-3.
Chaudhary defeated Nepali Congress leader and candidate from the ruling alliance Bijay Kumar Gachhadhar by a margin of 5,188 votes. Chaudhary received 40,788 votes while Gachhadhar, a former deputy prime minister, garnered 35,600 votes.
Gachhadhar had defeated Chaudhary by a margin of 381 votes in the 2017 general elections.
