Judicial Council picks Shrestha for justice post
Supreme Court Chief Registrar Kunwar recommended for High Court judge.Post Report
The meeting of the Judicial Council led by acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki on Thursday decided to recommend Til Prasad Shrestha, the chief judge of Biratnagar High Court for justice of the Supreme Court.
Shrestha will become the justice of the apex court once the Parliamentary Hearing Committee endorses him.
“Today’s meeting decided to recommend Til Prasad Shrestha for new Supreme Court justice,” said Ram Prasad Shrestha, a member of the Judicial Council.
Shrestha’s appointment will fill a vacant position of Supreme Court justice. Currently the Supreme Court has 20 justices whereas the total positions are for 21.
Shrestha said the meeting also decided to recommend Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court Lal Bahadur Kunwar for appointment as a High Court judge. “It has not been decided which High Court Kunwar will serve,” Shrestha said.
Acting Chief Justice Karki will appoint Kunwar as a judge of one of the high courts.
