More students have filed a forgery case against the Gandaki Medical College administration at the District Police Office, Kaski, saying that the institute have charged them more than the government-fixed fee.

A total of 23 MBBS students of the sixth batch on Monday filed a case against 11 individuals, including college Chairman Khuma Prasad Aryal, Chief Executive Officer Santosh Khanal, Exam Controller Laxman Prasad Sharma, Principal Rabeendra Prasad Shrestha, Chief Administrative Officer Krishna Ghimire, Finance Controller Yub Raj Sharma and account officials Hari Maya Poudel, Dinesh Poudel, Store-keeper Krishna Poudel, staff Bishworaj Ghimire and staffer Tilak Poudel.

According to the students, the college has collected more than Rs1.25 million in extra charges from them.

“I have been charged Rs695,000 extra by the college," Mira Lamsal, a sixth batch MBBS student of the college, told the Post. "We had no choice, the college had warn that we would not be denied to take internal exams unless we paid the extra fee.”

On March 5, three MBBS students had filed a forgery case against six individuals of the college administration. And a day later, 15 students pursuing BNS followed suit filing a similar case against the college officials. A total of 54 students have so far registered forgery case at the Kaski Police against the college administration.  

According to the BNS students, the college has been asking them to pay an additional Rs145,066 than the fee set by the government. The government has set a fee of Rs502,562 for the BNS programme.

The Kaski Police has already registered a fraud case against eight individuals in the Kaski District Court.

“We have already arrested Khanal and Sharma and presented them to the court. Arrest warrant has also been issued against others and we are searching for them,” said SP Om Bahadur Rana, chief of Kaski Police.

On Sunday, college chairman Aryal, along with others, had filed a writ at the Pokhara High Court demanding the termination of the arrest warrant against them.

“They cannot file such a writ at the court when they themselves are absconding. We will send a letter in writing to the court on Tuesday, requesting it to disregard the writ from the absconders,” Rana told the Post.

Also on Monday, two social activists Pritam Subedi and Bijaya Babu Siwakoti filed a complaint in the Department of Money Laundering Investigation against Khanal, Sharma and two college staff Tilak Poudel and Krishna Poudel, demanding investigation into their property.

“The college has been accused of charging more amount and the students have evidence to support the charges. There is also evidence that shows the college has been using a bank account of its accountant to collect the sum,” said Subedi.

Subedi and Siwakoti had previously filed a similar complaint at the department against Aryal, Ghimire, Shrestha, Sharma, Harimaya Poudel and Dinesh.
