The construction of Daraudi Lifting Drinking Water Project in Gorkha is progressing smoothly. Once completed, the project will supply drinking water to 4,848 households living in the district headquarters.
Tudiraman JV Constru-ction, the firm contracted to build the project, is due to complete and hand over the facility by next year. The project is estimated to cost Rs 373.7 million.
People living in wards 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Gorkha Municipality will benefit from the project, where water from Daraudi River will be supplied to the households through water lifting technology.
Chief of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division Office Ratna Lamichhane said around 50 percent of the construction works have been completed so far.
“The project needs 25 water tanks (50 to 600 cubic metres tanks) to lift water from Daraudi River to Upallo Kot. Two tanks, each with the capacity of holding 500 cubic metres of water, have already been built,” said Lamich4hane.
He added the project will be enough to fulfil the water demand of Gorkha Municipality for at least next 15 years.
The project workers have also started installing water pipes at seven different sites.
Badri Maskey, chairman of the Daraudi Lifting Drinking Water Project, said that water is being lifted from Daraudi to address the water shortage in Gorkha Municipality.
“This project will end the shortage of water in Gorkha Bazaar,” he claimed.
Around 700 households in Gorkha Bazaar have long been relying on the water supplied by Prithvi Narayan Sana Sahari Water Project
