Five people were killed and 25 others were injured when a bus fell nearly 200 metres down the road at Sarumarani Rural Municipality–4 in Pyuthan on early Sunday morning.
Bus driver Biru Chaudhary, 26, of Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur; Hira Tamata, 16, of Gaumukhi Rural Municipality-1, Pyuthan; Sarita Sharma, 26, of Pyuthan, Hari Malla, 28, of Gaumukhi Rural Muni-cipality-3, Pyuthan; and Sarita Chand, 23, of Krishna-pur Rural Municipality-2, Kanchanpur, died in the accident that occurred near Baddanda area along the Bhalubang-Pyuthan road, police said. The bodies were identified and taken to the District Hospital for post-mortem.
The bus (Na 4 Kha 1876) had left from Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, carrying 31 passengers.
According to police, 25 people were injured in the accident. The conditions of three people are said to be critical.
Ramesh Bhandari of Naubahini Rural Municipality-8, one of the survivors, said that the headlights of the bus had turned off right before the accident.
