Three rural municipalities and one municipality in Palpa district have started a campaign to replace thatched roofs with galvanised zinc sheets.
The campaign has been started Mathagadhi Rural Municipality, Bagnaskali Rural Municipality, Rainadevi Chhahara Rural Municipality and Rampur Municipality.
Spokesperson Laxmi Prasad Adhikari said, “Each family received three bundles of zinc sheet. All house with thatched roofs in the rural municipality will have zinc sheet roofs in a year.”
Chairman of Bagnaskali Rural Municipality Krishna Prasad Basyal said they started the campaign to reduce the possibility of fire and other natural disasters in homes with thatched roofs.
Om Bahadur Khadka of Rainadevi Chhahara-7 said the ward office helped him to purchase zinc sheets while constructing his house.
“I was provided with zinc sheets worth Rs 21,000,” said Khadka. In the first meeting of Rainadevi Chhahara Rural Municipality, the representatives had decided to provide aid to the houses that have thatched roofs.
Ward Chairman of the Rainadevi Chhahara-7 Devendra Pun Magar said the rural municipality has sent galvanised zinc sheets to all ward offices for distribution.
The administrative officer of the rural municipality, Thaneshwor Parajuli, said people who are constructing new homes have benefited from the campaign.
Rampur Municipality and Mathagadhi Municipality have also started the procurement process to purchase galvanised zinc sheets to distribute them to impoverished households.
