Nepali folk singer CPN-UML leader Komal Oli, who had filed her nomination as an independent candidate from Dang constitutency-3, withdrew her candidacy on Sunday.
She filed nomination as rebel candidate after her name didn’t figure in the CPN-UML’s election candidate lists under first-past-the-post (FPTP) category and proportional representation (PR). A former member of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal, Oli joined UML in September.
Organising a press conference in Ghorahi today, the singer-cum-politician announced her decision to withdraw candidacy and support CPN-UML candidate Hira Chandra KC. She was carrying a national flag and accompanied by some artists and her supporters while heading to election commission office to file nomination. “The CPN-UML betrayed me and didn’t include my name in the lists of party candidates,” Oli had complained after registering her nomination.
Likewise, CPN (Maoist Centre) politburo member and former lawmaker Kuber Oli and Gedlal Bhandari, who had filed nominations as rebel candidate from province 3 ‘Ka’ and province 3 ‘Kha’, have also withdrawn their nominations.
