Nepali folk singer Komal Oli, who was a central member of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), has joined the CPN-UML.
Oli quit her job at Radio Nepal to join active politics. RPP was her first party in her political career.
The popular singer continued her allegiance to Kamal Thapa-led RPP even after the party split in August. She even took part in the RPP election campaign during the local polls.
It is learnt that Oli quit RPP after the party could not garner respectable votes in the local polls. Oli’s desertion from the RPP is also attributed to the party’s split.
Oli formally entered CPN-UML amid a function in her home district Dang on Monday. Other local leaders from Nepali Congress, Naya Shakti, and Rastriya Janashakti Party also entered the CPN-UML. Around 500 leaders and cadres joined the UML today.
UML leader Bam Dev Gautam welcomed the new entrants.
