Speaker Onsari Gharti informed that the impeachment motion has been officially withdrawn during today’s Parliament meeting.
The proposer of the impeachment motion Min Bahadur Bishwokarma, a Nepali Congress leader, and supporter Tek Bahadur Basnet, chief whip of CPN (Maoist Centre), had submitted an application at the Parliament Secretariat on May 29 seeking revocation of the motion.
“At this critical time of constitution implementation, the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Sushila Karki has been withdrawn, expecting understanding, cooperation and positive support amongst the constitutional bodies for working by the state bodies as per the objective of the constitution,” read the application.
As many as 249 lawmakers from the ruling parties had registered the impeachment motion against CJ Karki on April 30, accusing her of interferring with the power of executive, inefficiency in executing her work, biased decision and flourishing the culture of groupism in the judiciary.
Subsequently, the Supreme Court’s decision stopped government from implementing the impeachment motion following which CJ Karki returned to the office.
Karki, whose term as the chief justice comes to end due to age bar on Wednesday, bade farewell to her colleagues today itself.
