Five dead, 35 injured in road accidents
At least five persons died and 35 others were injured in two road accidents in Tehrathum and Kavre districts on Sunday. A passenger bus plunged nearly 100 metres down the road at Myanglung-11 in Tehrathum, killing three persons and injuring 27 others. The bus was en route to Aunshidanda, Tehrathum, from Dharan.
Police identified the deceased as Guman Singh Limbu, 66, and Kalimaya Limbu, 45, of Simle-4, Tehrathum and seven-year-old Anjani Yakhya of Mamling-5, Sankhuwasabha. The victims died on the spot.
Nine seriously injured persons were taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan while others were admitted to Tehrathum District Hospital.
Police suspected that overspeeding may have caused the accident.
The bus driver is on the run.
In Kavre, two persons died and eight others sustained injuries when a Kathmandu-bound Tata Sumo crashed into an oncoming ruck at Nasikasthan-1 at around 5 am. The deceased were identified as Madan Shrestha of Morang, and Nilam Karki of Jhapa. The injured are receiving treatment at Scheer Memorial Hospital in Banepa.
