As many as 615,553 students are sitting for School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination on Thursday with a record high number of girls—1,477 more than the boys—taking the test.As many as 615,553 students are sitting for School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination on Thursday with a record high number of girls—1,477 more than the boys—taking the test.
Records at the Office of the Controller of Examination show that out of total examinees, 456,133 are from regular category from both the general and technical streams while 159,417 students are from the exempted group.
It shows that the number of girls taking the examination under regular category stands at 228,805 while the boy examinees are 227,328.
Girl examinees outnumbered boys for the first time in 2015 when 998 more girls than the boys had taken the exam.
“The number (of girls) is gradually increasing in technical the category as well,” said Examination Controller Krishna Prasad Kapri.
Kapri said apart from record high number of girls taking the exam, the SLC this year is remarkable as it is adopting letter grading system in results instead of traditional marking system. According to the new provision, students securing between 90 and 100 marks will get A+. Similarly, A is for those scoring between 80 and 89; B+ (between 70 and 79); B (60 and 69); C+ (50 and 59) and C (40 and 49). Similarly, students securing between 30 to 39 will get D+, D for those with 20 to 20 marks while E to those who score below 20.
The result of the examination that will conclude on April 11 will be published within three months since the completion of the test.
A total of 72,896 staff including 29,145 police personnel have been deployed for the examination.
