Snowfall has begun in the northern district of Manang from Friday, intensifying cold conditions in the region. This is the second spell of snowfall in the high altitude district after it witnessed a brief snowfall for a night and two days in the first week of November.
Seven VDCs of upper Manang including the area of district headquarters Chame and Phu VDCs saw fresh snowfall from Friday, locals said. “The season of snowfall has begun,” said Tshiring Lopsang Gurung, owner of Manang villag-based Tilicho hotel.
With the rise in cold conditions, local people have not been able come out of their home, while most of the people from the village have already moved down to the lower market areas.
Acting chief of Annapurna Conservation Region, Manang, Kailash Tiwari, said tourists have not been able to climb up after the snowfall from this afternoon.
“Tourists have been stuck to where they reached,” said Tiwari. “We have cautioned the tourists that it would be difficult to do the famous Thorang La pass trekking because of the snow.”
Manang based Nepal Army Major ManaMadan Thapa said the area is completely enveloped by thick fog.
