A number of VDCs, including Oyakjung, Jaljale, Simle, Ishibu and Samdu, in the district have been facing an acute shortage of foodstuffs as the Myanglung-Sanktranti road is obstructed by the flooded Khorunga stream.
Water level in the stream has increased due to the incessant rainfall and vehicles have been stranded due to the lack of a motorable bridge over the stream.
Chitra Shrestha, a trader in Aushi Bazaar, said food stock has already been finished but they are unable to replenish it due to road obstruction.
Locals said they have been facing the shortage of rice, beaten rice, sugar, salt, biscuit, flour and other foodstuffs in the area. They said they are not likely to manage foodstuffs for the upcoming festivals. The 67 kilometre Myanglung-Sankrati road has been obstructed for the past two months due to several landslides and increased water level in the stream. Transport entrepreneur Durga Prasad Limbu said even tractors cannot ply the road as debris has not been removed yet. The road section is also a part of the Mid-Hill Highway.
