Tiger hide, bones seized

Acting on a tip-off, an investigation team from Regional Police Office in Dipayal arrested Khadak Khadka and Ram Bahadur Rokaya of Punarbas and Indian national Bansha Bahadur Rana for their involvement in smuggling animal parts.
Police seized a 10-foot long hide of an adult striped tiger and 21 kg bones from the trio.
Police nabbed the suspects while they were entering into Nepal with the animal parts they had brought from Sampurna Nagar, India. This is the third major haul of smuggled parts of endangered tigers in the district in the past two months.
According to Sub-inspector Birendra Johari, Mahakali in-charge of the investigation bureau, the seized animal parts were being brought to Nepal after a Nepali smuggler purchased the parts from Indian smugglers at Rs 1.25 million. Three Indian suspects involved in the smuggling are at large.
Earlier, police had seized two hides and 37 kg bones of endangered tiger from Chadani and Belauri in the district. During the police interrogation, two Indian nationals held on smuggling charge, had informed that the seized parts were of the tigers poached in Pilbhit area in India. It is said that 65 tigers have been poached in the forests of Pilbhit area in recent times.
A source said the animal parts were being smuggled to Tibet.
