The ‘Citizenship in the name of mother’ campaign has garnered attention from all over the world. Nepali groups in New Delhi, Ottawa, New York and Washington DC will also be handing over the signatures to respective ambassadors and consulate generals.

The Interim Constitution, the Citizenship Act of 2006 and a Supreme Court directive of 2011 allowed citizenship distribution on the basis of citizenship proof of either mother or father. But, a provision in the constitution being drafted makes it mandatory for a citizenship applicant to produce the nationality proof of both mother and father parents.
