The team also interacted with prisoners of three cells and listened to their problems.
The inmates complained of congested living space, lack of medical care and ill-treatment by some fellow prisoners. “There is a trend that one group brings prisoners under control and even capture inmates to demand ransom,” a prisoner said, adding that the trend has not been controlled despite their complaints with police. Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Birendra Prasad Yadav said the prison lacks resources and budget to reconstruct its dilapidated building and address other problems. “Problems that can be resolved in the district-level will be sorted out within a few days,” he said.
“I have directed the prison administration, the District Administration Office and the District Police Office to initiate works for necessary improvements of the prison. We will urge the government for reconstruction of prison building,” Yadav said.
