Shrestha elected FNCCI president
FNCCI’s 60th general assembly finalises most office-bearers for three-year term. Vote count still continues in some categories.Sima Tamang
Anjan Shrestha has been appointed president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), automatically succeeding under the federation’s statute, which provides that the senior vice-president assumes the top post. He will lead the private sector umbrella body for the next three years.
The FNCCI’s 60th general assembly, which began on Monday, saw voting held on Tuesday, with vote counting beginning the same day. Results for most office-bearer and committee positions have been declared, although counting is still ongoing in some categories.
Prabal Jung Pandey has been chosen vice-president from the associate category, while Abhigya Malla and Juna Mathema have secured positions as women members from the same category.
Naresh Lal Shrestha has been elected as vice-president from the commodity group, while Krishna Prasad Sharma and Dil Sundar Shrestha have won the vice-president posts from the district and municipal group.
In the district and municipal chamber group, Sharma and Shrestha were elected to vice-president positions. Executive committee members from the group include Prayas Karki, Arjun Kumar Shrestha, Ujjwal Prasad Kasaju, Keshav Prasad Bhandari, Krishna Katuwal, Gokul Shrestha, Chhatradhar Atreya, Tara Bahadur Karki, Dipak Nepal, Mohan Prasad Shrestha, Laxman Raj Paudel, Shankar Giri, Santosh Khadka, Sudarshan Karki and Hari Prasad Aryal. There were 22 candidates for 17 seats.
Gita Amatya and Hira Bhattarai have secured seats as women members from the district and municipal group.
Provincial representation in the same category includes Jiban Parajuli and Ramesh BK from Koshi, Bikash Kumar Sarada and Amar Nath Shah from Madhesh, Sabin Shrestha and Prakash Manandhar from Bagmati, Pabinda Kumar Shrestha and Subin Shrestha from Gandaki, Yagya Prasad Bhattarai and Bal Krishna Subedi from Lumbini, and Pitambar Joshi from Sudurpaschim. In Karnali, Padam Bahadur Shahi and Puri Chandra Devkota were elected unopposed.
In the commodity group, Naresh Lal Shrestha has been elected vice-president. Other members who secured seats include Araniko Rajbhandari, Nani Raj Ghimire, Rabin Puri, Raj Kumar Karki, Sangharsha Bista, Pashupati Dev Pandey, Bidur Dhamala, Bhakta Bahadur Hamal, Lilendra Prasad Pradhan, Sagar Dhakal and Hom Prasad Ghimire.
A tie between Nirajan Chalise, Raghunandan Maru, Biplab Adhikari and Suraj Banjade, who each secured 50 votes, remains unresolved, with a draw yet to be finalised. There were 26 candidates for 13 seats.
Sunita Nemhaphuki has also secured a seat as an executive committee member.
In the associate category, 17 members have been chosen: Sachin Dhakal, Hemanta Golchha, Ambika Prasad Paudel, Ujjwal Kumar Shrestha, Shakti Kumar Begani, Rishi Agrawal, Sushil Thapa, Rajesh Kumar Agrawal, Suyash Pyakurel, Ram Sharan Bhandari, Babu Kaji Karki, Diwas Neupane, Krishna Lal Maharjan, Priya Raj Regmi, Ishwar Bahadur GC, Suraj Upreti and Batu Lamichhane. Vote counting for the remaining positions, including associate vice-president and women members, is still ongoing.
In other categories, Sunayana Ghimire and Bishwonath Khanal have been chosen from the commodity federation group, while Suman Kumar Shrestha and Gopal Shrestha have been chosen from the founder member group. Manoj Paudel has been selected as an executive committee member under the bilateral category.
