ANNISU (R) elects new leadership

Ranjit Tamang has been elected as the chairman of the All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary), a student wing affiliated to the CPN (Maoist Centre).
“Tamang has been elected through ANNISU (R) chairman through the 21st national conference of the student union,” confirmed Ramesh Malla, coordinator of the election committee. The ANNISU (R), however, had not formally announced the result.
Election the new leadership of the Maoist Centre-aligned student union was held on Wednesday. The vote count, which started on Thursday, concluded on Saturday morning.
The ANNISU (R)’s national conference has elected 243 new working committee members and 33 office bearers.
This is the first time the Maoist student union has chosen new leadership through voting.
Surendra Basnet, Tilak Raj Bhandari, Deepak Devkota and Bijaya Gautam have been elected vice chairpersons in open category. Pancha Singh has been elected vice chairperson from women’s quota while Dipesh Pun has been elected vice chair from the indigenous nationalities’ category.
The national conference has elected Rabi Kiran Yadav as the vice chair from Madhesi quota, Uttam Adhikari as general secretary and Keshav Rawal as treasurer, said Narendra Neupane, immediate past chairman of the student union.
