Cabinet appoints Somlal Subedi as acting chief secy
A Cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning appointed Secretary at Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development, Somlal Subedi, as the acting Chief Secretary.Ekantipur Report
Subedi will automatically be elevated to the post of chief secretary after incumbent Chief Secretary Leela Mani Poudel retires on August 7.
Minister for General Administration Lal Babu Pandit confirmed the appointment with eKantipur.
Subedi, who hails from Kaski district, began his civil service career over three decades ago in 2038 BS as a non-gazetted second class officer. He has served at Finance Ministry, Local Development Ministry and General Administration Ministry and worked as Local Development Officer in Surkhet, Nawalparasi, Kavrepalanchok and Baglung districts. He had initiated the Local Governance and Community Development Programme during his spell at Local Development Ministry.
He was promoted as secretary on April 14, 2011.
Subedi was second in seniority basis behind Secretary Shreedhar Gautam when Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) directed the government to take departmental action against Gautam for delaying decision over the share sale of Gokarna Forest Resort. Jaya Mukunda Khanal, secretary at Industry Ministry, and Bishwa Prakash Pandit, secretary at Education Ministry, were the other frontrunners for the bureaucratic top post.
Subedi is regarded as a bureaucrat with a clean image.
