The preliminary hearing was put off after some technical work. A 12-member jury has started recording statements. The session began at 10am local time. The court announced the end of the first day’s work at around 1pm. The jury is expected to initiate a detailed hearing by the end of this week.
“I was informed that the court proceeding begun today (Tuesday). This is pre-trial. The hearing can go as long as six months,” said Pradip Jung KC, military attaché at the Nepali Embassy in London.
Lama has been charged under the British Domestic Law (Criminal Justice Act 1988 (134) with torturing two persons in detention during the insurgency in Nepal.
