Nepal reports one more death and 554 new cases as Covid-19 tally crosses 12,000

Nepal on Saturday reported one Covid-19 related death and 554 new cases, taking the national tally to 12,309.
According to the Health Ministry, a 50-year-old man from Godawari Municipality-7 of Kailali district died on Saturday morning while undergoing treatment at Bharatpur Hospital in Chitwan.
“The man had lung cancer and was getting treatment in India,” ministry spokesperson Dr Jageshwor Gautam said during a regular press briefing. “He was admitted to Chitwan Medical College where he tested positive for the coronavirus on Thursday.”
He was transferred to the isolation ward of Bharatpur Hospital where he died at 6:35 am on Saturday, Gautam said.
With the latest death, the toll due to Covid-19 has reached 28.
Of the 554 new cases, nine were reported from Rasuwa, which became the 77th district to confirm coronavirus in Nepal.
“Samples of 73 individuals from Doti, 66 from Bajura, 49 from Pyuthan, 34 from Rautahat, 31 from Dang, 30 from Mahottari, 26 each from Palpa, Baitadi and Syangja, 18 from Argakhanchi, 14 from Kailali, 13 each from Achham and Salyan and 12 from Bara tested positive for the virus,” said Gautam.
New cases were detected also in Dadeldhura, Baglung, Rupandehi, Udayapur, Gulmi, Sarlahi, Nuwakot, Ilam, Bajhang, Kathmandu, Bardiya, Dhading, Dhanusha, Kanchanpur, Morang, Parsa, Banke, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Jajarkot, Kapilvastu, Parsa, Panchthar, Bhaktapur, Nawalparasi (East), Rolpa and Surkhet districts.
Nepal reported one death and 593 cases on Friday and two Covid-19 deaths and 434 cases on Thursday. On Wednesday, 629 cases were confirmed.
Rautahat has a total of 1,326 cases, the highest for a district, followed by Dailekh with 776 cases.
“So far, 210,877 polymerase chain reaction tests and 294,034 rapid diagnostic tests have been carried out across the country,” said Gautam.
With 136 people having been recovered in the past 24 hours, the total number of discharged patients has reached 2,834.
