The body of one of the two Spanish tourists who went missing on Sunday has been found in Annapurna Rural Municipality of Kaski.
Eric Kasanovas and Molass Junka Missi lost contact while trekking from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani via Ulleri.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Basanta Kumar Sharma, a team comprising five divers from the Armed Police Force Kalika Battalion, local police, and residents found Eric’s body buried in sand in the Bhurungdi river on Tuesday.
The tourists had registered for the Ghorepani trek at 10:21 am on Sunday but opted for the old trekking route, said Yam Bahadur Gurung, in charge of the Birethanti checkpost of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).
A search operation was conducted throughout Monday, suspecting that the tourists might have fallen into the river while taking photos after locals found two bags lying unattended near the Bhurungdi Rivulet waterfall, Gurung said.
Police and locals found a trekking stick near the waterfall on Monday.
The search is ongoing for the missing female tourist, police said.
