20 players announced for closed camp
Hong Kong is hosting Nepal, Qatar and Namibia for the quadrangular series from April 9 to 13.
Post Report
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Saturday called 20 players for a closed camp targeting the four-nation T20I series in Hong Kong in April.
Hong Kong is hosting Nepal, Qatar and Namibia for the quadrangular series from April 9 to 13.
Meanwhile, the 20 players’ list was revealed on the eve of the conclusion of the seventh Men’s PM Cup and a day later after the appointment of Nepal’s new head coach.
The CAN on Friday had revealed Australia’s Stuart Law as the head coach of the men’s national team and India’s Manish Jha as the consultant coach for the women’s team.
Law, whose tenure begins in April, will be leading the Nepali side for two years. Law formerly coached the senior teams of the West Indies, Bangladesh and the United States of America. He has also worked as an interim coach for Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
CAN has expressed optimism that under Law’s leadership, Nepal's cricket would reach new heights. Law’s major challenge for the next two years will be the CWC League 2 cycle (2024-27) where Nepal have had a poor start.
Nevertheless, the 20 players called for the camp include the best performers of the PM Cup as well.
For instance, Kiran Thagunna, Dipendra Rawat, Nandan Yadav, Rupesh Singh and Arjun Gharti will be making a debut for the senior team if they can get in the flight to Hong Kong after a promising performance in the closed camp. Alam has also been called back to the national side.
The other senior players called include skipper Rohit Kumar Paudel, Aasif Sheikh, Lokesh Bam, Dipendra Singh Airee, Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Sundeep Jora, Rijan Dhakal, Gulshan Jha, Kushal Malla, Kushal Bhurtel and Bibek Yadav.
The list did not include Anil Kumar Sah and Sandeep Lamichhane. Sah is injured while Lamichhane is still recovering, according to Bhanu Sigdel, CAN’s media coordinator.
Correction: Earlier version of this news erroneously mentioned Stuart Law from England.
