The Netherlands bagged a commanding 10-wicket win against Nepal in the Women’s T20I Tri-Series on Wednesday at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.
Following a record-breaking opening partnership, Stérr Kalis and Femke Molkenboer steered the Netherlands to a 151-run chase in just 19.4 overs, surpassing Nepal's target of 146 runs with ease. This was the largest-ever partnership in Women’s T20I for the Netherlands, surpassing the 144-run stand between Kalis and Denise van Deventer against Germany in 2019.
Kalis, who struck the winning six, remained unbeaten on 98 off 69 balls, hitting 11 fours and two sixes. Molkenboer supported her with a solid 48 from 49 balls, including four boundaries. Their excellent batting ensured that the Dutch side reached the target with two balls to spare.
Earlier, Nepal had posted a competitive total of 145 at the loss of four wickets after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Despite early setbacks, where opener Samjhana Khadka (6) and Mamata Chaudhary (1) were dismissed cheaply, captain Indu Barma and Puja Mahato resurrected the innings with a steady 78-run third-wicket partnership.
Barma contributed 39 runs from 37 balls, with five boundaries, before being stumped off Caroline de Lange's delivery. Mahato, who played an anchoring role, finished unbeaten on 62 runs from 51 balls, including five boundaries, setting a new personal best.
Former captain Rubina Chhetry added a quick 20 runs from 17 balls, while Kabita Joshi chipped in with 7 runs off six balls, including a six. The Netherlands’ bowling attack was led by Iris Zwilling, who took 2-25, while de Lange (1-31) and Heather Siegers (1-14) claimed one wicket each.
This victory for the Netherlands marks their third win in the series, all of which have come against Nepal. With three wins from five games, they remain in the hunt for the title, while Nepal is yet to register a victory in the triangular series.
The Netherlands will face Thailand in the next match on Thursday, with Nepal set to take on Thailand in their final match of the series on Friday.
