Pokhara Avengers secured a record breaking 10-wicket win over Lumbini Lions in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, on Thursday.
Chasing a target of 171 runs set by Lumbini, Pokhara openers Andries Gous and Dinesh Kharel put on an unbeaten partnership, sealing the victory in just 16.5 overs. Gous smashed 104 runs off 54 balls, becoming the first player to score a century in the ongoing NPL. His innings featured 12 fours and 5 sixes. Kharel supported him with an impressive 61 off 39 balls, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes.
Pokhara’s dominant performance also marked the first time in NPL history that two players scored half-centuries in a single innings without losing a wicket.
Earlier, Lumbini Lions posted 170-5 in their 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Captain Rohit Paudel led the innings with a blistering 95 off 59 balls, including 10 fours and 4 sixes. Paudel’s 110-run stand with Tom Moores (45 off 38 balls) was the highlight of the innings.
Despite their efforts, Lumbini’s bowlers struggled to break Pokhara's opening partnership. With this victory, Pokhara registered their first win of the tournament, leaving Lumbini, which has played two matches so far, as the only team yet to claim a victory.
