The concert, dubbed Pheri Uthne Chha Nepal II, was part of a larger post-earthquake social initiative.
The folk-rock outfit was initially formed as a boy band by three Pokhara boys—Deepak Rana, Bhim Poon and Amrit Gurung—in the early 90s with the aim of popularising Pokhareli tunes. Their first album-the self-titled Nepathya-was released on April 1, 1993 and included their first runaway hit Chhekyo Chhekyo. Since then, the band has released seven more albums and has seen 21 different musicians come and go among their ranks. Frontman Amrit Gurung is the only remaining member from the original band.
Saturday’s Pokhara concert-staged at the Pokhara Rangashala-will be the first of a string of concerts planned to mark the band’s anniversary. The proceeds from the event will go towards infrastructure development at two local earthquake affected schools in Salyan district, the organisers announced.
