Artist Rabindra Shrestha’s second solo art exhibition is currently on display at Taragaon Museum, Boudha. The highlight of the exhibit is the fingerprint-arts that depict the current situation of the world alongside paintings that explore the tragedies during aftermath of the quakes.
Shrestha, who travelled to various earthquake-affected districts in the wake of the quakes, draws his inspiration from the victims of the disaster and their sufferings. The artist started painting for this exhibit after witnessing and internalising the psycho-social and physical effects of disasters and wars on people.
Speaking about his assortment, Shrestha says, “I have tried to incorporate and capture various human emotions that have been invoked by natural and man-made disasters around the world. Simply put, the current exhibit is my attempt at capturing grief on canvas.”
Director of Taragaon Museum, Roshan Mishra, said, “Through his art, Shrestha adeptly reveals how wars and disasters wipe out heritages and devastate people. He has depicted the contemporary issues of the world in an artistic way.”
Shrestha has also been selected by the Harvard University to exhibit his paintings as well as to participate in Harvard South Asia Institute Visiting Artist Program. Four artists including Shrestha have been selected from South Asia for the programme. This is the first time that any Nepali artist is participating in the programme.
“I am really excited to be participating in a programme organised by one of the world’s most reputed universities. These kinds of opportunities rarely come by Nepali artists. I hope I can make my country proud too,” shares Shrestha. During the programme, Shrestha will be displaying his fingerprint-art that will tap into themes such as connection and belonging.
The exhibit at Taragaon will run until Monday.
