Lyricist/singer Jivan Lal Maskey’s album of adhunik songs Yatra Jivanko was released amidst a function in Kathmandu on Friday. The album was jointly launched by actors Madan Krishna Shrestha and Haribansha Acharya.
The album has 14 songs sung by Uday Sotang, Manila Sotang, Sangita Shakya, Dipa Maharjan, Dhan Bahadur Gopali, Ratna Shova Maharjan, Dipak Swapnil, Nisha Desar, Shreya Sotang and Surendra Shrestha. It is being produced by Homeland Creations and Strings Recording Studio.
This is Maskey’s 10th musical album. He has had a keen interest in music since his childhood, and he received formal training in music from Sangeet Mahavidhyalaya in Putalisadak, Kathmandu, in 1967. Maskey is also remembered for Jivan Daboo, a monthly Newari musical event he helped organise in different localities of Kathmandu.
Maskey graduated from India’s Punjab Agricultural University with a BSc degree and took his MSc in Agriculture from the University of Baguio, the Philippines. He also has a long history in the civil service. Maskey, who has been residing in London for the past few years, says he is already thinking about his next collection of Nepali songs, which will move Nepali listeners.
