Gypsy jazz (also known as gypsy swing or hot club jazz) is a form of jazz music that originated in Paris in the 1930s. Roma guitarist Jean “Django” Reinhardt is often considered to be the man behind this subgenre of jazz. And while Europe is still the hotbed for this music, with scores of artists and a huge fan base, Hari Maharjan is considered to be the major practitioner of gypsy jazz in Nepal.
Speaking of the festival, French musician Givone said that although gypsy jazz is widely loved in Europe and the US, it is yet to find a considerable audience number in Asia. With the end of its Pokhara tour, the festival has officially come to a close.
