Hindu devotees performed rituals at the Pashupatinath temple on Wednesday morning to honour their departed family members on the occasion of Bala Chaturdashi.
After a sacred bath in the Bagmati river beside the temple, devotees scattered Satbij—seven types of grains and seeds, including paddy, barley, sesame, wheat, gram, maize and finger millet—while following a prescribed path around the temple.
Those who have lost family members spent the night awake at the shrine, lighting oil-fed lamps in their memory in the Kailash area, Ram Mandir, and the western side of the temple.
Here are some photos taken by the Post photojournalist Suryams Upreti documenting the ritual.
