UML holds Republic Day rally in Kathmandu
Cultural procession showcases traditional items.
Post Report
Supporters of the ruling party the CPN-UML marched through Kathmandu streets on Thursday to mark the Republic Day.
The rally featured cultural displays and traditional attire, with participants carrying kharpans—a traditional shoulder pole used to carry loads—alongside symbolic swords and shields. It ended at Bhrikutimandap, where a formal programme was being held.
Senior party leaders led the procession. Supporters chanted slogans in favour of the republic and the UML throughout the march. At the venue entrance, party workers distributed buttermilk from a minivan to participants.
The first-ever meeting of the elected Constituent Assembly (CA) held on May 28, 2008, officially announced the Federal Democratic Republic by abolishing the autocratic regime of the monarchy prevailing over 240 years in the country.
