Locals in Madhyapur Thimi celebrated the vibrant Sindoor Jatra festival on Tuesday.
Held annually on the second day of the Nepali month of Baishakh, Sindoor Jatra is part of the larger Bisket Jatra festival observed by the Newar community in Bhaktapur. The celebration marks the start of the Nepali New Year and the arrival of spring.
During the festival, devotees parade through the streets with 32 chariots bearing idols of various deities. Participants joyfully smear each other with Sindoor(orange vermilion powder), dancing and singing to traditional music throughout the procession.
Here are some glimpses of the celebrations captured by the Post’s photojournalist Angad Dhakal.
