The Islamic holy month of Ramadan has begun, with Muslims gathering at mosques for prayers on the first Friday of the month.
According to the Islamic calendar, Hijri Samvat, Ramadan falls in the ninth month. It is considered sacred, and Muslims around the world observe fasting (Roza) for a month.
The month begins after the sighting of the moon on the last day of Sha’ban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. This year, fasting started on Sunday.
Here are some photos of the prayers offered at a mosque in Kathmandu captured by the Post’s photojournalist Angad Dhakal.
