The ‘Phulpati Badhai Ceremony 2081’ was held on Thursday afternoon at Tundikhel, Kathmandu, to celebrate the seventh day of the Dashain festival.
The Nepali Army honoured President Ramchandra Paudel, the chief guest of the occasion, with a ceremonial salute, followed by a military parade. The highlight of the ceremony was a Nepali Army helicopter flying over the parade ground, displaying a banner reading 'Phulpati Badhai Ceremony 2081' and showering flowers on the spectators.
Distinguished guests, including Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, and National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, attended the ceremony, along with Deputy Prime Ministers, ministers, and other officials.
The Phulpati Parade is a significant cultural and religious event that showcases Nepal’s traditions. It marks the ceremonial arrival of jamara (barley shoots) and Phulpati—a collection of auspicious flowers and leaves—brought from Gorkha to Hanuman Dhoka in Kathmandu.
This ancient tradition is observed annually by the Nepali Army, attracting a large crowd to Tundikhel to witness the grand celebration. The Phulpati Badhai serves as a continuation of Nepal's rich heritage, blending religious, cultural, and military traditions.
