Sujan Bag Shrestha, 28, pierced his tongue on Sunday to maintain an age-old tradition observed during the Biska Jatra.
Sujan, a permanent resident of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-8, continued the tradition by piercing his tongue for the second time.
Sujan’s family has carried on the tradition of tongue piercing for more than two decades. His father Buddha Krishna pierced his tongue nine times and his uncle Krishna Chandra 12 times.
The tongue-piercing festival is observed on the second day of the Nepali month Baisakh (April 14 this year) as part of the Biska Jatra which marks the beginning of the Nepali New Year.
Here are some photos of the festival captured by the Post photojournalist Angad Dhakal.
