Tamang community marks Temal Jatra with fervour
The festival is celebrated a day before the full moon in the Nepali month of Chaitra.Post Report
People from the Tamang community offered prayers at various Buddhist shrines on the occasion of Temal Jatra on Wednesday.
On the occasion, people from the community throng to nearby Stupas to offer butter lamps (nangsal) and prayers.
The festival is celebrated a day before the full moon in the Nepali month of Chaitra.
The term ‘Temal’, said to have been coined during the reign of King Rejen Dorje, is sometimes considered a synonym for the word ‘Tamang’.
As per Buddhist religious beliefs, lighting an oil lamp at the Boudhanath Stupa during the auspicious occasion brings peace to the souls of the ancestors who have passed away.
Here are some images of the festival being observed at Boudhanath stupa captured by Post’s photographer Sanjog Manandhar.
