People from the Tamang community celebrated Sonam Losar—the beginning of the New Year— with zest and zeal across the county on Sunday.
On the occasion, the Tamang people spend the day with their near and dear ones and feast on a variegated cuisine.
According to the Manju Shree calendar or Tibetan lunar calendar, the festival is regarded as the beginning of the New Year.
Tamang people divide time into 12 cycles, each one for a year, which is given a special name, represented by one of the 12 animals for each year. As per the Tamang tradition, today they completed the year of the tiger and enter the year of the rabbit.
The government has declared a public holiday today on the occasion of the festival.
