The metropolitan traffic police on Tuesday began a crackdown on violators of the odd and even rule for vehicles as a measure to check the spread of the coronavirus.
The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division’s drive created traffic jams in various road sections.
According to SP Rameshwor Yadav, spokesperson at the division said over 1,088 traffic rules violations were booked on Tuesday till 12 pm.
“ We found a large number of vehicles on the road breaching government’s rule,” said Yadav. “As the festive season is nearing, the number of rule breachers is going to be bigger and that is why from today we have tightened the odd and even rule.”.
After the three weeks of prohibitory orders lifted on September 18, the Chief District Officers of the Valley— Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur had implemented the odd and even rule for vehicles plying on the Valley’s roads. However, in recent times, the government’s rules were widely ignored and authorities had been lax too.
“The traffic division office will strictly monitor the odd and even rules in the days to come until the government lifts the restriction,” said Yadav
