Sketch of to-be-built Dharahara made public
The government has made public the sketch of the new Dharahara it intends to build. The iconic tower was destroyed by the earthquake last year.The government has made public the sketch of the new Dharahara it intends to build. The iconic tower was destroyed by the earthquake last year.
According to the sketch, the new structure will be 245-foot tall and will have 11 storeys. Around 42 ropanis of land has been allocated in Sundhara area for the construction of the structure.
The designs have been prepared by Cage Consult Pvt Ltd and JV Associates.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 3 billion. Construction will be completed in three years.
According to Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Ananda Pokharel, Nepal Telecom and many other private organisations have expressed interest to finance the project. Also, Rs20 million has been collected from the campaign ‘I will build my Dharahara’, Minister Pokharel said. The Dharahara, also known as Bhimsen Tower, originally was 11-storey tall before the 1934 earthquake reduced it to just nine storeys.
