Hosts Kavre District Football Association entered the final of the Kavre Gold Cup football tournament with a 5-4 tie breaker victory over Nepal Armed Police Force Club on Thursday.
The match had to be decided from the spot after both the teams were locked at 1-1 in the 90-minute regulation time. Uman Budhathoki, Ruman Shrestha, Sanish Tusuju, Bikash Lama and Sahil KC converted their shots from the spot for the hosts, while Kavre custodian Dipesh Shrestha denied Rohit Thapa of APF. The goalkeeper was later adjudged the man-of-the-match.
In the regulation time, Sameer Khadka had given Kavre a 24th minute lead but APF levelled in the dying moments of the first half courtesy an own goal from Tusuju who inadvertently headed into his own nets while clearing a shot from Hari Karki. In the final on Saturday, Kavre will take on A Division outfits Sankata Club.
Sankata had beaten Jawalakhel Youth Club in the tournament’s first semi-final match on Wednesday. The tournament champions and runners-up will take home Rs 400,000 and Rs 200,000 respectively.
